Fin had spent most of the day taking Felix's advice and performing poetry in the streets of the whimsical little Christmas city. He'd drawn a decent crowds, and as evening came he had a fair amount of coin to spend. ...But rather than bother with food or drink, Finlay had slunk off to a little shop dealing in art supplies and fine papers, spending his lot on several sketchbooks, pastels, oil paints and brushes- As well as a small leather bound journal to write in. In truth he'd likely spent more than he'd made, but the shop keeper with his twinkling eyes and warm smile had assured him he had exactly enough.

Hauling it back to town, Fin dropped most of it off back home, taking only a good pen and his leather bound journal along with him to the dome.

Sitting on the floor, he wrote quickly, jotting words down and occasionally pausing to sketch something out before turning the page. Once, then again and again and- :"Ow! Fuck me," he muttered, looking down at his hand and the fine, but deep, paper cut near the top of his pointer finger. Cuts were a miserable thing for Fin. They either bled very little and scabbed over in massive globs, or bled for ages, and took forever to heal. ... This one was definitely a bleeder, and he did his best to avoid dripping over everything as he rushed to the kitchen and turned on the tap.

"Sorry," he muttered as he gently pushed past someone and stuck his hand under the cold water.

Hex had just poured the tea water when Fin bumped him out of the way. The sight of blood gave him a small jolt of adrenaline and he moved back closer.

"That's a nasty cut, mate. You're going to need a bandage. Come upstairs, I can wrap it up for you," he offered.

"All the more reason to get some pressure on it, mate. Come on, wrap it in paper and I'll get you fixed up," Hex grinned. "It's ok...I'm a nurse."

Not that he remembered that, he'd simply been told. He did seem to have some good instincts, though, so it must be true.

Hex lead the way up to the lab where there were first aid supplies. Without any conscious thought, he pulled on a pair of gloves before finding a bandage and things.

"You're Fin, right? Winter said something about you," he said casually. He thought best to leave out the fact that Winter had said he and Fin had been close. He didn't recall, and Fin hadn't said anything, so maybe he didn't recall either.

"Hector, yeah," he nodded. "Can call me Hex if you like. Alright, take the towel off it and I'll make sure it's clean."

It really was a bleeder. For a moment he thought about getting a bigger bandage.

"Are you a hemophaeliac?" he asked, dabbing the blood away, that just kept seeping out of the cut.

"Let's get it wrapped up, then," he said, an set about it. The bandage went on, tight enough to get the bleeding to slow, though it didn't stop immediately. Hex could see that the way the gauze soaked up the blood.

"It'll be alright now," he said, meeting Fin's eyes and giving him a smile.

"That's alright. Bit of an emergency, yeah?" Hex chuckled. "You want some tea? The kettle is still hot."

"I don't mind a bit, don't be silly," he chuckled. "I'm Hex. Come on."

"Which do you prefer?" Hex asked as he lead the way back down the stairs to the kitchen where he immediately made for the kettle to put it on for tea.

"I just put a little milk in mine," Hex replied. With the kettle on, he grabbed mugs and dropped tea into them to get ready. "What were you doing when you cut yourself like that?" he asked curiously.

"You're a writer? Brilliant. I've never even thought of giving that a go," he said. "I've been told i was a nurse, but me memory's a bit shit at the moment."

"Oh, yes. I met him the day he turned up. Gave me a look, but it's not obvious what's wrong," Hex shrugged. "And another bloke tried to help me, too. Maybe shook something loose, but it didn't work, not really. I'm starting to think I might just be like this forever."

"That's me thought, yeah? It doesn't bother me, exactly. I'm happy, fed, and safe. I'm making some mates here and all. Could be a million times worse," he said. "I think other people are bothered by it more than I am."

"I'd be more worried if it hurt, honestly," he said. "It's a bit hard to describe, but it feels like...I'm not sure. I feel fine. Free. Unencumbered, maybe. New," he replied, grasping for some way to describe how he felt.

"I reckon that could be true," he laughed softly. "Seems to me it's not of any use to worry over something I can't change, though. May as well get on the best I can. Make new friends, figger out what sorts of skills I've got..."
